Another transition that took place with the R51/2 is the rear fender rack.

The rear fender rack that came on my machine had four holes that go through the top of the fender (see left rack in the photo).  This is so that the bolts would go to either side of the tunnel put on the underside of the fender for the wires to the taillight that began on the R51/3. Early R51/2 production models had only two bolts that go through the rack into the fender.  Since the taillight wiring ran externally along the left side of the fender there was no need for the tunnel under the fender.

One problem I had with the reproduction fender rack is that the stays on the rack that secure to the fender stays did not fit the same as the original.  The rack stays on the reproduction racks want to come into contact with the fender itself before the rack stays come flush with the fender stays.  I had to use a 5mm spacer to keep the rack stays from coming into contact with the lower edge of my fender.
